Need Credit? Compare Credit Cards to Find the Best Credit Card
Establishing a credit history can be very frustrating experience. You want to have a good credit history because it will allow you to get the things that you have always wanted. It is an important part of just everyone's life, but it can also be stressful and confusing. In order to get credit you have to have a good history but just how do you get the right credit card deal in the first place?
Luckily, because otherwise this would seem like you were running around in circles, there are some steps you can take to establish the beginning to a good credit history. Follow these instructions and you will be on your way to developing good credit and obtaining the possessions you have always wanted.
What You Can Do to Start Building Your Credit History
Even though you don't have credit, there are ways you can prove to creditors that you are a trustworthy person and are capable of handling credit. First, one of the most important (and easiest) ways that you can prove you are trustworthy is by having a job and staying at that job for a long period of time.
Show this to the creditor because this goes a long way in determining just what kind of person you are. Obviously, if you are miserable at a job you are not meant to stay there just so you can receive credit, but try not to move from job to job in this time period because it does not necessarily demonstrate the ability to handle the more important things in life.
If you have a job and have money to work with, you could also open a checking or savings account. Show the credit card company or the bank that you are capable of handling your money. This is a great way to prove to everyone that you would also be able to handle having credit as well.
The third thing that you can do, and this should be done whether or not you are applying for credit, is keep a track record of your bill payments. Make sure to make all of your payments on time because this shows you are entirely capable of paying off your bills and you are serious about establishing a good history financially.
The last thing you can do is try and get your credit report from the three credit agencies (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax). They may or may not have a credit file started on you, but if so request that you have it and look it over carefully. Many credit reports have been found to have some sort of inaccuracy in them so it would be wise to take the time and review what the agencies have on you. If you find that something is inaccurate, you can get it changed and make your chances at getting credit that much better.
On Your Way to Getting Credit
Once you have taken these steps and you have verified that the information on your credit report is accurate, you have a few options to start your credit history. Firstly, compare credit card offers! You can apply for an unsecured credit card, a secured card, a card with the assistance of a co-signer, or a retail or gasoline credit card. The retail or gasoline cards are easier to qualify for.
To begin establishing credit in a positive light, there are some guidelines that you can follow that are basically common sense. The entire credit process can seem confusing because you previously did not know anything about it but hopefully you learned enough about it here that you will be able to go out and begin getting the credit that you have always wanted.
Simple Guidelines to Follow to Have a Good Credit Score
Obviously, you should always pay your bills on time. This proves to creditors that you are serious about your money and you are capable of handling credit.
Do not carry too many credit cards at one time. The rule generally is that you should only have two to four cards because it is not a good sign to creditors if you have too many. If you have too many, creditors may think you are running into debt or cannot handle paying off one card so you continue getting more to pay off the others.
Limit the number of times that you request credit. Asking for it too much is also not a good sign to creditors. It drives down your credit score and shows you have a potentially irresponsible attitude when it comes to money. Do not max out your credit limit. Always try your balance was less than 30 percent of your available credit line.
Lastly, do not pay just the minimums on your credit cards. You need to show that you can pay off more than just the bare minimum because otherwise it seems like you cannot handle more than just that. It also takes forever to pay off the entire balance when you only pay the minimum. Credit card companies see this as a bad sign and increase your rate because they see you as a potential risk.
